The next Fiddler's Green Concert is scheduled for Saturday, August 17th at the Garden Hills Community Center located at 307 Pinetree Drive in Buckhead (behind the swimming pool at Rumson and Pinetree just north of East Wesley). Map.

This show features Rick Diamond opening for the dynamic Dallas-based acoustic trio The Malvinas.

The doors will open at 7:30, and the music will start at 8:00. Coffee, tea, bottled water, soft drinks, and desserts will be available for purchase; those wishing to eat more substantially or drink alcoholic beverages may bring their own. The requested donation at the door will be $12 general admission, $10 for AAFFM members. Children under 12 are welcome without charge.

Featured Performers -- The Malvinas

The Malvinas are Lisa Markley, Gina Forsyth and Beth Cahill. They offer a feisty blend of traditional and folk-pop music. They take their name from legendary folk singer-songwriter and activist Malvina Reynolds, whose songs were covered by many of the artists of the folk revival of the 1950-60's.

With roots all over North America, they pull together a broad palette of regional colors including: the Blues-tinged grooves of the deep South, the spicy Cajun flavors of Louisiana, the Celtic modes of Eastern Canada and the libertarian troubadour tradition of the Lone Star State.

Alternating lead vocalists, tight harmonies and quirky instrumentation (dobro, guitar, tenor guitar, mandolins and violin) creates a high energy sound that never forgets that to make great music, you start with a great song.

Individually and collectively, The Malvinas have been fortunate to work as sidewomen and to share the stage with some really great artists including: Tori Amos, The Burns Sisters, Bruce Daigrepont, Jack Hardy, Eliza Gilkyson, Shake Russell and Dana Cooper. Their debut CD, I'm Not Like This, has just been released.

Opening the Show -- Rick Diamond

Opening the show is local performing songwriter Rick Diamond. A regular during the acoustic heyday at the Freight Room in Decatur, we've often referred to Rick as the best unkown songwriter in Atlanta. However, his performances on the local coffeehouse scene have led to an ever-increasing and loyal fan base.

Diamond performs in the classic folk troubador tradition: an old Martin guitar and one of those harmonica-holding contraptions around his neck. The music performance is good, but his lyrics are what sets him above and apart from most of his peers. His songs are often topical in nature, he deftly weaves his words about the subject at hand with skill and grace, and occasionally a bit of satire.

Rick will be joined for this performance by guitarist/vocalist Tom Wolf.
